Job QualificationsA guide to careers and jobs. |
Advertising JobsAdvertising is a form of promotion for a product or service that is delivered through various media outlets. The idea behind advertising is that a product’s desired image or message can reach a lot of people. Advertisers, through study and research, target a specific audience where their product would have the most appeal. Sometimes this research is not thorough and non-target groups may be exposed to the advertising which is a waste of promotional funds. Advertising has long been mostly found only in print, television, and radio. However, new forms of technology have opened up new media avenues for advertising such as the internet and mobile devices. Also, advertising has normally been only one-sided but new developments have opened up advertising so that customers who are interested in a product can request more information, such as clicking on ads on websites. Advertising takes place everywhere in all forms of media. Advertising jobs can specialize in areas such as marketing, product placement, advertising sales, media planners, and media consultants. Advertising Job QualificationsPeople who are interested in advertising must be people oriented. You must also be able to handle the high pressure that comes from a job with deadlines, have strong communication skills, and be highly motivated. Furthermore, you need to be adept at building relationships with clients. Advertising is usually managed by a team of professionals so you need to have the ability to work as a team member and get along with different personality types. To get into advertising, a degree is important. Most people try for a bachelors or a masters degree in either business administration or commercial art (or both) from an accredited university.
