In the political field, there are laws that are being passed to try to provide better quality at cheaper and more affordable prices. All of this adds to the industry’s growth. There are many job titles within the healthcare industry but most of them can be found within hospitals, private practices, or pharmaceutical companies. Health care professionals are responsible for maintaining health, preventing sickness, treating both physical and mental illnesses, and managing other health problems. This covers everything from dental assistants, dieticians, eye doctors, and people that work in hospitals. The most common job that comes to mind when you think of health care is probably nursing. Nurses are in high demand and can be found in a number of areas. Healthcare Job QualificationsThe number one key to qualifying for a job in the healthcare industry is a college degree. Depending on what specialized field you are wanting to break into, you must have a degree or certification in that area. A good place to start is to take some pre-med classes at a university. This will give you a chance to decide on a specialization. Be prepared because none of the classes are easy. Getting into health care is one of the harder professions as far as education goes. Candidates should have a great aptitude for biology and chemistry. Some job titles can require anywhere from a two year degree to an eight year degree. Nurses and dental assistants can operate with an Associate’s Degree. This can be earned at a two–year junior college. Other positions in the industry may require up to a PhD. Internships are extremely useful. They are required for almost all practicing medical positions. However, if a candidate is interested in working for a pharmaceutical company, an internship would also be useful in providing an insight into the field as well as networking and making connections. Health technicians – This category includes most of the jobs that you would normally find either in a hospital or a specific practice. Some of these jobs can be highly technical. This includes everything from lab assistants, x-ray technicians, EKG technicians, MRI operators, Diagnostic technician, and anesthesiologists. It also includes other areas of health such as dentists, orthodontists, and ophthalmologists. Pharmaceuticals – Jobs within the pharmaceutical field deal with the research, manufacture, and distribution of medical drugs and related products. Pharmaceutical researchers, chemical engineers, and pharmaceutical sales all fall into this area. Also included in this field are pharmacists that deal with prescription refills. Nursing – The largest field in the healthcare industry, nurses are found in hospitals, nursing homes, and private practices. Nurses can hold a variety of degrees and certifications and can work in different areas such as pediatrics, gastroentemology, gynecology, orthopedics, and vascular. Therapy – Therapists and therapy assistants are responsible for rehabilitating physical and mental conditions. Therapists can work in rehab clinics, hospitals, or have a private practice. They can deal with everything from reconditioning muscles, surgery recovery, and helping patients to get back to a functioning state. Social Services – Social services in health care are responsible for processing government programs such as Medicare and Medicaid. They can help patients fill out paperwork and get them signed up for the appropriate care. Social services are usually government funded positions. |
