Internet jobs have seen a tremendous growth over the years. The internet has significant potential for a variety of companies and individuals interested in increasing their business or starting a new career. It has opened up a whole new way of doing business and in the process has created new job positions. Internet jobs can serve several purposes and practically any industry can benefit from them.

Internet jobs can provide several services such as web design and maintenance, online retail, information services, technical support, and marketing. The best thing about internet jobs is that you don’t necessarily have to go in to an office to do the work. Most of it can be done from home through telecommuting online. As the economy changes and gas prices fluctuate, more and more people are trying out these options.

Internet Jobs Qualifications

There are many different qualifications for internet jobs and they all vary depending on the specifics of the job. One of the most basic requirements is a working knowledge of how to build websites. There are several different types of programs and codes such as Java that you need to know. If you can’t set up a website then you are already limiting yourself on the types of internet jobs you are qualified for.

Candidates for internet jobs in technical support need a four-year degree, an associate’s degree, or some other form of technical training. An extensive knowledge of computer networking, programming, HTML, and CSS is a must. You also need to be proficient at finding solutions to internet-related problems.

Needless to say, you should be fairly computer literate to have an internet job. This means you need to know basic programs fro either Mac or PC. Some other web-based programs that are useful to know are Flash, Firefox, Ajax, and Adobe Photoshop.

Internet & Online Job QualificationsBecause internet jobs cover a wide variety of industries, there are numerous job positions available. Some of the more common types are web development, home data entry, network security, web analytics, ecommerce, and web content.

Web Development – Probably the largest area of internet jobs, web developers have the task of designing, creating, and setting up web sites. They are responsible for everything from creativity to practical applications such as navigation to site maintenance.

Home Data Entry – This is a slowly growing field within the internet industry. Home data entry workers handle filling out informational forms and bill processing for such businesses as doctor’s offices. They get to work from home on their own computers are generally paid per form completed.

Network Security – After the attacks of 9/11, there was a surge in job positions for network security. The position is responsible for the integral security of a website or information that can be accessed through a network.

Web Analytics – This is a job position that has been around since the early 1990’s but has seen some growth in the last few years. Web analytics involves the collection and surveying of site-vendor behavior. Basically, it is a merger of marketing and information technology using the internet. The recent growth came about because as more websites are launched, it creates more competition which causes an increase in marketing.

eCommerce – The buying and selling of items and products through websites has been around since the early days of the internet. This online retail can involve sites by large companies such as Amazon or Ebay or it can be smaller sites created by individuals.

Web Content – This type of internet job involves writing, creating, and publishing content onto websites. Webpublishers and freelance writers make up the largest number of employees in this area. With the growing number of websites, there is an ever-increasing need for content.
